Whole Health is an “integrated medical practice” utilizing both traditional and alternative treatment modalities. Whole Health’s founder and principle physician, Dr. Michael Ligotti, is also one of the few Board-Certified out-patient physicians specializing in addiction treatment and treatment of opiate-use disorder. Dr. Ligotti and his team of physician assistants and nurse practitioners are highly skilled and specialize in the comprehensive medical management of patients in recovery for drug and alcohol use disorders, as well as the utilization of Medication Assisted Therapies (MAT) to assist in allowing a patient to no longer be actively addicted to their drug of choice. We are trained with the latest evidenced-based techniques to drastically reduce withdrawal symptoms while making you as comfortable as possible in the process of accomplishing our goals.
Dr. Michael Ligotti, D.O. is Double Board-Certified in Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine. Dr. Ligotti is Whole Health’s Founder and his recovery advocate team of Doctors, and PA’s, utilize a comprehensive and holistic skill-set to address each patient’s unique needs and circumstances. Whole Health is an integrative care practice with a high population of patients suffering from addiction and the many health issues associated with drug and alcohol abuse. Common medical co-morbidities that are investigated include thyroid disorders, hormone imbalances, depression, STD’s, TB screening, hepatitis C, HIV, and female healthcare, to name a few.
Dr. Ligotti has over a decade’s experience in addiction medicine. He has completed the training program sponsored by the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry in the use of Suboxone for the out-patient treatment of opiate-addicted patients, and he is ABAM (American Board of Addiction Medicine) Board-Certified in Addiction Medicine.
Dr. Ligotti is among a very small number of physicians licensed to offer this treatment in a private office-based setting. Prior to the Drug Addiction Treatment Act (DATA) of 2000 the only out-patient based treatment for opiate-addicted patients was Methadone, which is very problematic in and of itself, and must be obtained through specific government-sponsored treatment facilities on a frequent, sometimes daily, basis. Buprenorphine products (i.e. Suboxone, Zubsolv, Bunavail), oral naltrexone, and Vivitrol are the only FDA-approved medications for office-based treatment of opiate use disorder. The use of these medications in the out-patient setting allows individuals with narcotic dependence or addiction to continue their lives while making positive progress towards living a drug-free lifestyle.
Whole Health’s focus is a holistic approach that includes the potential use of necessary medication, supplemental vitamins and minerals, and the encouragement to continue with behavioral therapies such as IOP, 12 step meetings, faith-based program, etc. The treatment is always tailored to the individual patient’s needs, desires, and comfort level.
Whole Health’s team is armed with the necessary training and compassion to work with you as an individual or alongside your treatment provider helping you on your hero’s journey of recovery. Whether this is your first time addressing addiction, or have been in treatment prior, Whole Health has the proper education, experience, long-term guidance, and a passion to assist the 10% of the population suffering from addiction and has made it their life’s work.
